Satisfy Your Senses with Ideal Sleeping Spaces

View of a Modern and Creative BedroomVital to getting a good night’s rest is a clean and comfortable bedroom. To feel truly at home as a renter, it is important to create a bedroom sanctuary of your own. Most people spend a lot of time – almost one-third of your life! – in their bedroom. Consequently, the bedroom should be a place of peace and relaxation. If yours isn’t providing that for you, perhaps it’s time to change things up a bit. You can always find ways to transform your bedroom into something special and more personal.

Generally, bedroom updates require no landlord approval. There are changes, however, that might be of concern to your landlord. To be safe, check with your landlord first before deciding on anything. One of the best no-approval-required places to start to create a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing bedroom is with your bed. One of the ways you can turn your bedroom into a place of relaxation is to find yourself a good mattress, sheets, and pillows. These are essential to a good night’s sleep. A seven-year-old mattress is probably due for an upgrade. You can do this by adding a plush mattress topper, or just replacing the mattress with a new one. Don’t skimp out on your pillows! Make sure you replace them when they start to feel worn and uncomfortable. As far as your sheets, if they’re polyester, you can swap them out for a nice cotton set. Cotton breathes much better and can help keep you comfortable all night long.

Naturally, the most comfortable bed is only half of what provides relaxation; the other half comes with a bedroom that’s just as pleasant as the bed inside of it. Achieve an attractive and personalized space of your own by enhancing the appearance of your bedroom. One way is to free your bedroom of any unused items or clutter. Clear the space of anything that will only serve as an eyesore. It’s definitely easier to relax when everything is neat and tidy. Maximize every nook of your bedroom by utilizing the storage spaces to organize your stuff. A spruced up room is key to relaxation!

Another way to give visual appeal and personality to your space (even a rented one) is to decorate it. Adorn your walls with photos or artwork. By adding color and visual interest to your space, you let your creativity shine through. Further release your inner creativity by sprucing your bedroom with colorful bedspreads, heaps of pillows, or accent lamps. Don’t worry, these updates don’t require your landlord’s approval! If your bedroom has a large wall, try adding a colorful quilt or other items to add warmth and liven up your space. Without making any permanent changes, you can add some life to your home by simply picking out elegant curtains or rugs that fit your chosen aesthetic. Blackout curtains can help eliminate outside light while adding a houseplant can help freshen up the air.

Of course, there are more permanent ways to personalize a bedroom. However, landlord approval should be obtained in writing before attempting to do so. Maybe you want to paint a whole wall as an accent or add paneling and a chair rail? Or maybe you’ve been thinking of adding something like a border to your bedroom walls? Also, should you feel the need to install shelving or other fixtures on the walls, seek the approval of your landlord before moving forward, since the installation might leave obvious and permanent changes to the house. If your landlord approves of those changes, then you’re well on your way to making your ideal sleeping space. A good rule of thumb is that anything you add that cannot be easily removed, damage-free, generally requires pre-approval from your landlord first.

And, last but not least, good ventilation and airflow inside the room. Once these two are guaranteed, your bedroom is certainly going to be comfortable. This requires an HVAC system checkup and prior landlord approval, in most instances. Something that you might have to do is to ask permission from your landlord to install a ceiling fan”” if you deem it necessary. Just remember that if you plan to make such changes yourself, any electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician. If you think those aren’t for you, there are other installations that aren’t permanent. Such as freestanding fans, air purifiers, or even diffusers. These can help circulate and freshen the air in your bedroom and keep you deep in restful sleep.
